How to use Geshi (Syntax Highlighter) in Joomla

Syntax Highlighting is a much needed addon for anyone who is looking write articles or tutorials which has any custom code involved. You must be surprised to know that, none of the Joomla basic or advanced editors come with a proper syntax highlighting plugin. Not even the famous, JCE Editor.

Thankfully Joomla has one hidden plugin called Geshi, which does this job pretty well. I'm sure, many of you have never heard about Geshi or used it in real time. So, here is how to use it.


First of all, make sure, its active in the plugin manager. Then goto article manager and try to create an article.

Another the most important thing to remember is, geshi syntax can only be used when you are on HTML view of your editor.

So,now that the plugin is enabled, if you want to show code in your articles you should switch to HTML view in your WYSIWYG editor and use this format :
