If you are running a Joomla website, which is resource hungry, then you definitely need to look at some caching options.
By default, Joomla has its own caching feature, but that is not that powerful, so normally users go for 3rd party cache handles like memcached, eAccelerator and APC. Out of all, memcached has been the most famous one and used widely by many Joomla website owners.
In order to setup memcached to be used by your Joomla website, you need to follow the below steps and make the necessary tweaks, as asked below.
Open your configuration.php file in Joomla root folder :
public $caching = '0';public $cache_handler = 'file';
Edit them and change the code to:
public $caching = '2';
public $cache_handler = 'memcache';
public $memcache_server_host = 'localhost';
public $memcache_server_port = 'xxxxx';
You need to get those details and port number from your host though. Once you have , replace with correct values, save the configuration.php and you should be done then.
